大教堂建筑群的一部分，佛罗伦萨主教座堂广场（Piazza del Duomo）上的独立式钟楼的哥特式风格由乔托﹒迪﹒邦多纳（Giotto di Bondone）设计，他是著名的意大利画家和建筑师。 在他去世后安德里亚﹒皮萨诺（Andrea Pisano）继续Giotto的工作，最终工程以建造屋顶露台收尾，由Francesco Talenti完成。
