Het hoofdkwartier van de Verenigde Naties bevindt zich in Manhattan en is gebouwd in 1952. Naast het centrale hoofdkwartier hebben de VN verschillende regionale hoofdkwartieren overal ter wereld (In Genève, Vienna en Nairobi).
Als je het complex wil bezoeken breng je best je paspoort mee aangezien het land waarop het complex zich bevindt toebehoort aan de VN waardoor je technisch gezien het territorium van de Verenigde Staten verlaat. Hierdoor zijn er strikte veiligheidsmaatregelen en veiligheidscontroles voor je het complex binnengaat.
De VN rondleidingen voorzien niet enkel informatie over het complex zelf maar ook over geschiedenis en doelstellingen van de Verenigde Naties. Er zijn speciale rondleidingen voor kinderen dus aarzel niet om je hele gezin mee te brengen.
Tijdens de klassieke rondleidingen kun je (afhankelijk van de planning) officiële vergaderingen meemaken of (als er geen vergaderingen plaatsvinden) belangrijke zalen bezoeken waar de evenementen meestal plaatsvinden (bv. General Assembly Hall, Security Council Chamber of Economic en Social Council Chamber).
Tickets kunnen online aangekocht worden als je wachtrijen wil vermijden.

The tour dates are subject to change and not always available. You need to purchase the tour ticket online in advance and arrive one hour before the tours start to undergo a security check. You also need a valid government-issued photo ID.
For security reasons, children under 5 years of age are welcome to the UN but are not permitted on tour. For the Kids Tour (5-10 years) check the Visitor Center website.
First, go across the street from the UN to the Visitors Check-in Office at 801 First Avenue (Corner of 45th Street) before entering the UN.

Choosing a free tour you will not see any of the significant parts of the Headquarters.
