Villa of the Quintilii

Local nameVilla dei Quintili
LocationTorricola, Italy

Take a good look at these ruins. Once, they were a magnificent villa of the noble Roman Quintilii family. Today, you can explore an archaeological museum full of interesting sights here.

The beauty of the Villa of the Quintilii proved to bring bad fortune to its owner. It attracted the eye of the Roman emperor Commodus, who desired to make it his own. Rather than purchase it from the Quintilii though, he chose to slaughter the entire family for made-up crimes instead, and seize their property afterwards.
