Tokyo Metropolitan Government Main Building 1

Local name東京都庁舎 第一本庁舎
LocationTokyo, Japan

If you are travelling on a tight budget, but you still want to see as much as you can, you cannot miss out on this place. Housing the government of Tokyo, overlooking all the 23 wards and adjacent villages and towns, this building is not only of great importance but provides entertainment too.

The architect Kenzo Tange designed this building to resemble a computer chip. It is the second tallest building in Tokyo, and - the most popular thing among tourists - has two observation decks 202 metres above the ground, providing you with an astounding view of the city and the surrounding areas. When the weather is good, you can even see Mount Fuji, the Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, Meiji Shrine and the Tokyo Dome. Each one of the observatories also has a café and a gift shop, where you can buy souvenirs of all sorts.

Aside from the observatory, there is also a tourist information centre, offering valuable insight into Tokyo's attractions. There are also frequent fairs, where local producers sell their products.

The nearest stations are Tochomae Station, Oedo Subway Line (No. 4 exit), Shinjuku Station (JR Line), and Shinjuku Station (Marunouchi Subway Line). The whole building is wheelchair accessible.
