The Main Parish Church of the Assumption in the centre of Budapest

Local nameBelvárosi Nagyboldogasszony Főplébánia
LocationBelváros, Budapest, Deutschland

This church is one of the oldest in Budapest - said to be nearly two millenia old. This is where Matthias Corvinus was elected king, and where the great Hungarian composer Ferenc Liszt conducted his orchestras.

Although the researchers can only trace its construction to the 12th century AD, it is likely, that a temple used to stand here even during the Roman times, as attested by some archaeological finds. To see them, visit the crypt underneath the church.

The church has undergone intensive restoration and reconstruction works between 2010 and 2016. Today, it is as good as new again.
