In order to preserve this Civil War era fortress, the bridge was built over it. Explore the complex and join a free guided tour to learn more about the history of the fort, as well as about the construction of the bridge. There is also a bookstore where you can buy historical books and other souvenirs.
You may know the fort from various films including Hitchcock's Vertigo, and a number of games such as GTA: San Andreas.
Opening hours vary. Fall - Spring: usually open Fri-Sun: 10 am - 5 pm. Summer: usually open 5 days a week from 10 am - 5 pm. Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
