Bruges Canals

Local nameBrugse reien
LocationBrugge-Centrum, Bruges

Bruges is also called “Venice of the North” and when you catch a boat and cruise the city via one of these canals, you will surely understand why.

The canals are a part of the city nearly as old as Bruges themselves. They were built in the 12th century in order to help carry merchandise across the city and cross through the entirety of the city centre. They allow visitors to see the attractions from a different angle, as well as to view some that would otherwise remain inaccessible, such as private yards.

This particular pick-up place is not the only spot on which you can board a boat. There are plenty of others along the canals. You can start your cruise at any of them, you only need to exit at the same place you entered. Since the boat rides are fairly popular, be prepared to stand in a queue for a while.
