Akihabara District

Local nameAkihabara
LocationTokyo, Japan

If you are a fan of anime which has, as a style, took the western comic book stores and animated movies market by storm, this is the place for you to be. If not, come and find out what the fuss is all about. The area is also famous for selling all things technological, hence its nickname, the "Electric Town".

The entire area around the Chuo-Dori street is full of various shops and even cafés, catering to the needs of the otaku, as the fans of the anime are called. You can browse through the comic books in designated stores, have a snack in a bar, where the waitress is dressed like a character from an anime story, or observe people on the streets wearing cosplay.

The easiest way to get here is via train, as the centre of the district is the Akihabara train station. You can also use the subway, exiting at a station of the same name.
