Guide to Edinburgh's Best Whisky Bars
Edinburgh is not only a beautiful city, but it has some fantastic Whisky Bars and some excellent whisky history. For hundreds of years; Speyside, Campbeltown, Islay, the Highlands and the Lowlands have made whisky. In Edinburgh, we have always been the sellers. Edinburgh has been the place where the warehousing has been to hold the stock, where blending the whiskies to suit the international palate has taken place and finally the place from where the whisky has been exported to the international market. To give you an idea, Edinburgh was heavily involved in the whisky industry in the late 19th and early 20th century. Down in Leith (the docks of the city) you can still see the remnants of this warehousing, in the form of refurbished restaurants, bars and apartments.
Whisky has marked this city in other ways too. The Usher Hall on Lothian Road, for example, was a legacy of one of the original master blenders; Andrew Usher.
So, enough of the history lesson, on to the fun part; the bars. Edinburgh has some fantastic whisky bars and whisky cocktail bars. From your “old man’s pub”, to your cool cocktail bar, to single cask bars. It has more than enough for the dram hungry visitor.
All the whisky bars were recommended by Edinburgh Whisky Blog.
