The Dakota

Local nameThe Dakota
LocationManhattan, New York City, United States

The imposing 1884 building is best known as a place where the famous British singer and the member of the Beatles – John Lennon – lived from 1973 to 1980. He was shot here on December 8, 1980. Yoko Ono still lives in the Dakota Building today.

The building has always been inhabited by famous residents (e.g. Judy Garland or Jason Robards) and its address is considered one of the most prestigious ones in New York.

The building is closed to the public. There is no memorial place for John Lennon located near the building. The closest spot dedicated to his memory is the Strawberry Fields Memorial in Central Park.
