Mission Dolores Basilica

Local nameMission Dolores Basilica
LocationSan Francisco, United States

Built in 1776, this historic mission is the oldest surviving building in San Francisco. It was established by the Spanish and named Misión San Francisco de Asís (after the Christian Saint - Francis of Assisi).

Mission Dolores Parish consists of two main buildings - the Old Mission and the imposing Mission Dolores Basilica (which was built in 1918). Apart from visiting the basilica and the Old Mission, you can also visit the peaceful gardens or the cemetery where many important citizens of San Francisco are buried.

Since it is an active Catholic church, be sure to check the official website before your visit. During Christian events, it might be closed to the public.
