More details

Built in the nineteenth century on the site of a dried up river bed, Passeig des Born is a cool tree lined promenade right in the centre of the city. It has a selection of mid to high price range shops and also has a smattering of chic pavement café's. During the summer it plays host to many fiestas as people parade down the street dancing and partying. The Passeig des Born, or simply “Born” as the locals call it, is a great place to just people watch. You can sit in one of the pavement cafés that line the street and watch people go about their business. If you fancy a bit of retail therapy, then you can do that too. With shops such as H&M, Massimo Dutti and Zara there is plenty of choice. One of the best pavement café's is the “Bar Bosch” situated at the top end of the street, where you can sit back and get a real feel for the hustle and bustle of Palma whilst casually sipping a cold drink.

Born is also home to the Ca'n Solleric which is a modern art gallery opened in 1995 when it was converted from an old olive oil merchant's mansion. The art gallery houses some of the leading lights of contemporary Mallorcan art such as paintings and sculpture and is most definitely well worth a visit.

Visiting the Passeig des Born is a great way to spend a few hours. Try a little light shopping, grab yourself a coffee or a cooling drink at one of the cafés and then take a short walk to the harbour overlooking the water for a spot of lunch at the many restaurants, and you may well find that you have had the perfect morning.
