Palma Aquarium
With over 8000 specimens from 700 species of marine life, flora and fauna, it's well worth a visit.
More details
With over 55 aquariums containing a whopping 5 million litres of salt water, the Palma Aquarium is one of the best places to view marine life, as well as flora and fauna, in a nearly natural environment. It is situated in Playa de Palma, only 15 minutes from the city centre and only 5 minutes from the Son Sant Joan international airport, so it is very easy to access. The aquarium has over 8000 specimens from over 700 different species so there is something here for everyone. It has successfully recreated ocean habitats as well as ecosystems not only from the Mediterranean, but also the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans, so that the plant and marine life feel at home. When you peer into the vast tanks you will see a kaleidoscope of colours as you would see them in their natural environment and you can also get up “close and personal” with the likes of Hammerhead sharks and large sting rays.
The Palma Aquarium doesn't just have marine life. It also has the “jungle expedition” which is a fantastic recreation of a real jungle environment complete with animals, and plant life. It is positioned on the roof of the aquarium and is in fact the second largest roof top garden in Europe.
The aquarium complex also offers a cafeteria where you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. In addition there is a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs of your visit. The complex has large conferencing rooms too, as well as exhibition facilities. Palma Aquarium also offers a wide range of educational activities for those interested in the conservation of wildlife.
