Nymphenburg Palace

Local nameSchloss Nymphenburg
LocationNymphenburg, Bavaria, Deutschland

Designed by Agostino Barelli, the name of this palace literally translates as the Castle of the Nymphs. No actual fairies lived here though. When the Bavarian royalty in the 17th century wanted to take a summer break, they would go to this residence. Today, it is open to the public and home to several historical museums.

You can find one such museum in the royal stables. Definitely check it out if you wish to see the lavishly decorated golden carriage, that used to serve as the mode of transport for the royals.

When visiting, do not forget to take your camera with you. This is one of the few palaces where you will even be permitted to use it. Leave the backpack at home though, as carrying large items is forbidden. You can also deposit it in the lockers which are available on palace grounds free of charge.
