Christiansborg Palace

Local nameChristiansborg Slot
LocationCopenhagen, Denmark

The palace serves as the seat of the Danish parliament, the Ministry of State and the Supreme Court. Additionally, some of its parts are still used by the Royal Family for various events and ceremonies.

The first castle was built on this site back in the 12th century, however, it burnt down and so did the two castles that were erected here after that. The current palace dates back to 1928 and it was designed as a royal residence, although the King never lived here. It is a mixture of Neo-Baroque and Neo-Classical styles.

The Parliament is located in the southern wing of the palace and the Royal Reception Rooms, the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister's Office can be found in the northern wing. Some parts of the palace are open to the public with guided tours, no advance booking is necessary. Be sure to check at least the Great Hall, the largest part of the Royal Reception Rooms, where you can admire the Queen's tapestries.
